Well, we’ve had some sad things going on with people we love, so we’ve been busy thinking about them, praying and hoping in the Lord…

Our diet continues, and although not scientific, it is helpful.  First, because I’m focusing again on things beside the orange that I’m putting in my grocery cart and my mouth.  How about you?  How is it going?

Although, I’m having problems with my laptop and making entries… I cannot upload anything to publish because my screen is locked up on the bottom portion when I try to save.  The guru here isn’t able to help me, so computer-wise I’m on my own for now.  I’ll ask the brains behind the keyboard again sometime.

A couple of things to explain the endeavor.  I’ve hopped and lopped– hopped up and down the scale for nearly 17 years (since pregnancy with my first child)… I had the most success just before her 5th birthday, as pounds just seemed to fall off all of a sudden.  Then, I found I was pregnant again, and fared better weight-wise that time, but somehow grabbed poundage after delivery of my son… up and up I went, until I bore another child, soon to sprout a sweet baby again within 9 months of my baby girl, only to say goodbye to him before term.  I must have clung to baby weight, not wanting to part with my baby boy.  Needless to say, I’ve yoyoed again some.  The best of which was weighing in at 178 pounds two summers ago, June.  I don’t know how ‘it’ happened, but I climbed the scale with nary an effort (gaining weight requires so little, a better idea might be climbing Mt. Everest, but I don’t think I’m up for the task).

I weighed in recently, as I shared, however not buck naked, at 220.  This is the last weight I remember mentally noting in my pregnancy chart with my last daughter.  I know I gained more before the caesarean, but I never really wanted to process the possiblity, let alone reality.  Nevertheless, there I was, FAT.  But I cannot say I was ever disgusted with myself.  Protective, not disgusted.

I’m still not disgusted, I rather feel sorry for myself, haha.  I have tried exercise and eating healthier… but I haven’t given up sweets or fats.  Or eating late night.  I may start.  I definitely am making many wiser choices regarding my body and the food that goes into it.  And once again the amount of water.

This ‘diet’ is designed to do just that, help one focus on healthier choices while definitely getting some fruits, vegetables and therefore, nutrition, into the body.  Check your bod first for fatigue and agility… see if you don’t feel better before looking better.  Although The Orange-A-Day Diet doesn’t incorporate exercise in the design, if you follow my lead, you’ll be weight-training and working in cardio.  I’ll give you play by plays of my daily progress (or regress).  Then, hopefully, you will be motivated to try some of this yourself… at least try for the orange-a-day.

Design:  Eat one orange (I missed two days, I’m disqualified!) each day for the first two weeks.  This is to get the hang of having something healthy you shop for, getting your butt (sorry, just bein’ me, and some of our butts are gonna be harder to get in that others, but the bigger the butt, the better to get it into the market!) into the grocery store to actually buy food (fast food isn’t food in my estimation).

Next, a vegetable will be added to the orange.  Then, after one week of the duo (we’ll be in week 3), we’ll add another fruit to the mix.  If a citrus, and the exact fruit isn’t of quality in your area currently– or there is a better selection locally, presently, then try it.  And stick with it.  If a root, try for a root.  Now, my daughter, who has accepted my invitation to go along for the ride, has a tree fruit allergy.  She is allergic to many fruits and the allergy crosses over into the veggie platter, unfortunately.  She will obviously have to make adjustments; this is fine and encouraged, whatever the need.  Local fruits and vegetables are great!  Go this route for sure.  The point of this is your betterment, physically.

After four weeks (of fruit, veg, fruit each day) we’ll abandone the orange and go with a new veg… at least, that is what I am planning to do.  You may decide to  stick it out with the orange the whole way.  My daughter may do this, since fruit possibilities for her are limited and I’ll leave it up to her.  And who knows, maybe you have a wonderful orange tree in your backyard and it makes perfect sense to stick with the big O!  :O

After the fourth week, we’ll say farewell to the veg and bring back a fruit.  On any given day, we’ll be up to three healthy foods you must eat.  This way you’ll have less appetite and craving for other less healthy foods.

I’ll give other suggestions of things I’m trying and learning along the way.  Tip one is keep a journal.  Daily, I pray a lot via journal.  I also write out some of what I’m doing.  With my music, my kids… where God is leading, petitions I have of Him.  Basically, things I’m learning along this road of life that I’m on.  In my journal, you’d find a lot of Scripture, too.  This is truly my daily bread and Living Water!  If it’s not something you do, you might enjoy it.  Give it a try.  At least, let me encourage you to log your eating choices and diet management.  Don’t be too strict with yourself, I’m not going to be.  But, I imagine, we’ll see progress of some sort.

Good day to you!
